Ross Wilson: Nottingham Forest in advanced talks with Rangers supremo – Sources

Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to hire Rangers director of football Ross Wilson, sources have told Football Insider.

The 39-year-old is into his fourth year with the Glasgow giants after first being appointed in 2019.

It is understood that Forest are confident about finalising a deal soon to bring Wilson over to the Premier League in a sporting director role.

Former Forest sporting director Filippo Giraldi was sacked by the club on Tuesdsay (11 April), with Forest announcing via an official club statement that he’d been relieved of his duties.

Giraldi was tasked with overseeing the sporting operations at Forest, including their recruitment in January which saw seven players join the club.

Forest previously had sacked head of recruitment George Syrianos and head scout Andy Scott after 22 players joined in the summer and Forest made a poor start to the 2022/23 campaign.

The relegation-threatened side has moved quickly to secure a new director, with Wilson their first-choice target.

Wilson has faced pressure from Rangers fans to quit Ibrox this season, with questions raised over the club’s transfer activity and the lack of a title race against arch-rivals Celtic.

Gers supporters have targeted Wilson with protests throughout the season, with fans again raising banners and chanting against the board during the club’s 4-2 win over Motherwell last month.

The Gers transfer supremo has previously worked in England with stints at Watford, Huddersfield Town and Southampton in senior football roles before he moved north of the border in 2019.
