Seven-figure price tag slapped on stylish enforcer as Celtic prepare Jan swoop – report

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is preparing to make a swoop for Dundee defender Jack Hendry in January, but the Scottish Premiership club have slapped a price tag on his head triple of what the Hoops expected, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that the Dee have valued Hendry, 22, at a seven-figure fee worth £1.5million.
The Daily Mail had earlier reported that Celtic have tabled an offer worth £500,000 for the stylish defender, who has drawn comparison’s to Manchester City’s John Stones, however the Evening Telegraph has since claimed that Dundee have not heard anything yet.
Newcastle, Southampton and Crystal Palace are also said to be interested in Hendry now that the January transfer window has opened however Football Insider exclusively revealed in December that Rangers are also in the hunt to sign up the defensive enforcer.
Football Insider verdict
Celtic need to press on in this window if they want to ensure that they win a second domestic treble in a row as well as try to go as far as possible in Europe. Marvin Compper’s signing was ridiculous considering he won’t be able to help the Bhoys get past Zenit in the Europa League next month due to being ineligible while Rodgers’ existing options have been well off the pace in Europe. Hendry won’t be any better either and should definitely be seen as someone who can play more of a role in domestic competitions. The Hoops need someone with a bit of experience in European competition to help them out against the big boys.
