Shearer delivers worrying Tottenham verdict in raving over Kane exploits
Newcastle United and England icon Alan Shearer has said that Tottenham striker Harry Kane could be left looking for an exit from the north London club if they fail to pick up some silverware in the next two years.
The 24-year-old broke the Premier League’s top scorer’s 22-year-old record for most goals in a calendar year on Boxing Day, smashing home his second successive hat trick during the 5-2 thrashing of Southampton at Wembley.
He now holds the record with 39 top flight goals scored since the start of 2017, taking his total to 57 strikes for both club and country across all competitions.
After seeing the Spurs star usurp him in the record books, Shearer was left raving over his development into a top striker, although has delivered the worrying verdict that he could be seeking an exit should his current club fail to secure a major title in the near future.
Writing in his column for the Sun, he said: “Kane truly can do it all on the pitch and is a role model off it. He can score with both feet, his head, from close range and distance.
“One big improvement I have noticed in the last 12 months is how much quicker he is.
“He could score goals for Barcelona and Real Madrid as well. There lies the problem for Spurs.
“Things have stalled a bit on the pitch after title tilts in the last two seasons. If they don’t win anything in the next two years, Kane could have a big decision to make and there will be no lack of suitors with big money wanting him.”
The 23-time-capped England international has missed just one of his club’s league fixtures this season, and is leading the way for the Premier League golden boot with 19 goals, having already picked up two successive top goal scorer awards in the most recent seasons.
Spurs’ last piece of silverware came in 2008 as they picked up the League Cup, finishing as runners up in the same competition in 2009 as well as making an appearance in the FA Cup semi finals last season.
In other Tottenham news, fans were left raving over one of Kane’s team mates after the win over Southampton.
