Sheffield Wednesday 0 Rangers 2: Caixinha’s team cause upset as midfielder catches the eye

By Harry Sykes

Rangers provided further encouragement that they have bounced back from their European humiliation by beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 in a friendly on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Josh Windass and Kenny Miller secured a notable triumph against the Championship promotion hopefuls at Hillsborough.

The victory came four days after Pedro Caixinha’s side beat Watford 2-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Wednesday evening.

Rangers were ahead at the break after midfielder Windass took advantage of a brilliant Ryan Jack pass to slot into the net after 43 minutes.

The visitors then doubled their advantage 11 minutes into the second half when veteran forward Miller smashed in a great finish.

Attacking midfielder Windass caught the eye for Rangers but their man-of-the-match was goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, one of their few players to end 2016-17 with his reputation enhanced.

Rangers, who were buoyed by their 1-1 draw with French giants Marseille last Saturday, have now been given a major confidence boost with two wins and a draw in their final three pre-season fixtures.

The Glasgow giants begin their Scottish Premiership campaign with a trip to Motherwell next Sunday in what is a lunchtime kick-off.

In other Rangers news, the club are eyeing a swoop for a top-flight duo and have already tabled one major bid.
