Sky Sports pundit identifies Everton weakness, predicts 2017-18 finish

By Harvey Byrne

Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal man Charlie Nicholas has identified Everton’s lack of aggression as their main weakness and has predicted the Toffees a seventh placed finish.

The Goodison Park club have invested heavily into their side this summer, bringing in the likes of Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford and Davy Klaassen for big sums of money.

However, star striker Romelu Lukaku has also departed for Premier League rivals Manchester United in a deal thought worth to be an initial £75million.

Now, when judging how Ronald Koeman’s side will perform in the next campaign, pundit Nicholas has told that he feels the team is lacking aggression and that could harm them in the next campaign.

“They’re not as aggressive as they used to be, with the likes of Phil Jagielka and Gareth Barry really committed and aggressive. You don’t need kickers but they need to step up and be aggressive when they come up against the better sides,” told Nicholas, as quoted by the Sky Sports website.

“Seventh. There’s still too many questions for me and while they may close the gap on the top six, I don’t see how they will be better than any of them.”

Everton achieved a seventh placed finish in the last campaign, finishing eight points behind Manchester United in sixth and a massive 15 points ahead of Southampton in eighth.

They will be looking to make progress in the 2017-18 season, but the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United have all invested in their squad over the summer too.

The Toffees will also be looking to play in the Europa League, which can extend the fixture list quite severely and they will be taking on Ruzomberok on Thursday evening for a second-leg qualifying match.

In other Everton news, the Toffees will battle a number of European giants for this Bundesliga wonderkid.
