Sky Sports pundit predicts Leeds v Barnsley, names two key players
By Will Butcher
David Prutton believes Leeds will grab all three points against Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday to maintain their promotion push.
The Yorkshire giants will be hoping to continue their magnificent domestic form with a win against Paul Heckingbottom’s side, as they sit third in the Championship table.
Garry Monk’s side are seven games unbeaten in all competitions, winning six of those after dominating Steve McClaren’s Derby in front of the television cameras a week ago.
Prutton, who played for Leeds for three years between 2007 and 2010, claimed his old side would secure a narrow 2-1 away win and named two players that will play a crucial part.
“Pablo Hernandez has been a great addition,” Prutton told Sky Sports. “He now feels at home, while Chris Wood is scoring the amount of goals that suggests a purple patch in his career.
“It will be intense and passionate, as any Yorkshire derby tends to be, but for me it feels as though Leeds are going to go there and get all three points.”
Hernandez is likely to remain in the number 10 role behind top scorer Chris Wood, who has now scored nine goals in his last 13 outings.
Providing the winner against the Rams on Friday to earn a 1-0 win with a well-timed header, Wood has been Leeds’ vocal point this season and it is crucial that he remains fit.
However, it was four-time Spain international Hernandez that provided the difference in the reverse fixture at Elland Road back in October.
Scoring the winner, Leeds earned a 2-1 win thanks to Hernandez after Kyle Bartley had given Monk’s side the lead.
A win against the Tykes in Saturday’s evening kick-off will see Leeds close the gap on second placed Brighton to three points if Chris Hughton’s side lose to Sheffield Wednesday on Friday.
