Huge Leeds boost as soon-to-be-available key man ready to make long-term commitment
By Matt Farr
Garry Monk has given Leeds a huge boost by revealing he is prepared to commit his long-term future to the club after transforming their fortunes.
The former Swansea boss moved to Elland Road at the start of the season, and has revitalised the team to the point where they are genuine promotion candidates.
Leeds are currently third in the Championship after 26 games, and have been defeated just twice in their last 10 league games.
Monk revealed to the Mirror on Thursday that he was keen to pledge his long-term future to the club, following reports that new co-owner Andrea Radrizzani was set to reward him with a new deal.
He initially joined on a one-year deal in June, becoming Leeds’ 11th manager in the space of just five years.

However, he added that the contract talk would not interfere with his work, as he attempts to lift Leeds back into the Premier League for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
He said: “I see Leeds United as a long-term project for me, and I am delighted with the progress we are making this season.
“But things like contracts sort themselves out over a period of time, and I’m not thinking about it at the moment.
“All that stuff will take care of itself and, if it goes to the end of the season, that’s fine. It’s not my focus.”
In the first-half of the campaign, Monk has orchestrated memorable victories over Aston Villa, Derby, Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday, all sides that will be considered promotion rivals.
From his 32 games in charge, Monk has won 18 games, and tasted defeat on only nine occasions.
Following a victory over Derby in the Championship a week ago, Leeds and Monk can continue their promotion march with a win against Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday.
Football Insider verdict
There is absolutely no reason why Leeds should not be looking to offer Monk a new deal. He has done wonders for the club since arriving at the start of the season, and who would have thought six months’ ago that Leeds would be where they are right now? There have been doubts at Leeds’ ability to maintain their form, but Monk has proven time and time again that their transformation is no fluke, and he can genuinely guide them to the Premier League for next season. He was a superb choice for the managerial position in the summer, arriving at a time when managers where coming and going at a ridiculous rate, and has done nothing but improve the squad, the confidence and the will to succeed.
