Sky Sports pundit: This is the player that Tottenham are lacking

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes Tottenham are lacking a player with blistering pace in their attack.

Tottenham demonstrated an attacking masterclass with a thumping 6-1 victory over Leicester in the Premier League on Thursday night, but Carragher insists they are still lacking in one area.

Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Dele Alli all contributed to a fine display in the final third, as has often been the case this season, with Kane netting four goals, and Son netting twice.

However, the ex-Liverpool defender reckons Tottenham need to sign a player like Sadio Mane, who has ripped defences apart this season with his blistering pace.

Speaking live on Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, he said: “I think Tottenham were in for Mane, who’s gone to Liverpool. That’s the one player they lack, someone with real blistering pace in the front four or five.

“Normally they get that from the full-backs, especially Kyle Walker going forward on that right-side, but is that a problem for them away from home?

“At times you get forced back, you need to play on the counter attack and you need someone with blistering pace.

“With Tottenham at times, they score the perfect goal, intricate passing through the lines, because they don’t have too many, if anyone who can make that run in behind.”

Mane joined Liverpool from Southampton in a £34million deal last summer, and went on to provide 13 goals and eight assists in his debut season for the club.

Tottenham, meanwhile, moved to acquire a talented winger of their own in Moussa Sissoko, but their £30million man has struggled to reach the heights of his Liverpool rival.

The 27-year-old is without a goal and has just four assists from his 32 appearances in all competitions this season, and has struggled to earn regular opportunities as a result.

But Carragher believes that Tottenham need to re-enter the market for a new attacker who can offer them the pace to run in behind the defence to boost their chances of success next season.

Tottenham have already secured a second-placed finish in the Premier League ahead of their final game against Hull on Sunday , and have achieved qualification for the Champions League for the second successive season.
