Sources: Aston Villa agree £57m Buendia deal as announcement plan revealed
Aston Villa will nearly quadruple the wages of Emiliano Buendia when he completes a transfer from Norwich City this week, Football Insider understands.
The Premier League big spenders have been putting the finishing touches to the playmaker’s move over the last 72 hours after he opted to join them ahead of Arsenal.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that the total cost of the deal will be at least £57m.
This is made up of the guarantee transfer fee of £33m, £5m of add-ons and a basic wage worth around £75,000-a-week.
That will be topped up by add-ons based on the performances of the team as well as Buendia’s own individual ones.
Football Insider revealed during the weekend that Buendia had his heart set on heading to Villa after being convinced by their “huge” ambition and plans to strengthen this summer and in the coming years.
It is further proof of the club’s growth and improvement during the three-year reign of billionaire owners Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris.
Arsenal also bid over £30m-plus for top target Buendia but learned on Saturday they had lost out to Villa.
Buendia won the Championship Player of the Season as his 15 goals and 17 assists spearheaded Norwich’s romp to the Championship title.
Norwich decided not to stand in the way of a move for Buendia as they looked instead to cash in on their prize asset and reinvest in their squad.
It is expected that the transfer will be finalised in the next few days and he will then be announced as Villa’s record signing by the end of the week.
In other news, Aston Villa have set their sights on signing “phenomenal” striker from north-west club – and the opening bid could be £30m.
