Sources: Aston Villa make move to sign Yves Bissouma after ‘huge’ Nassef Sawiris vow

Aston Villa have registered their interest in signing Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, Football Insider understands.

The 25-year-old is a top target for the Midlands giants this summer after they had a £20million-plus bid rejected in January.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Villa have been in contact with Bissouma’s camp and asked to be kept informed about his situation.

They are regularly scouting the Mali international as they plan to sign at least one central midfielder in the upcoming window.

He is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and Brighton are braced for bids this summer.

As revealed by Football Insider last week, Villa owners Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris are set to back Steven Gerrard to the hilt with a huge signing spree on the cards.

The Villans are prepared to break their transfer record again as they look to spend over £150million on new signings.

A top-class midfielder is among Gerrard’s priorities this summer.

Bissouma was targeted in January but Brighton held firm despite Villa’s bid.

The Midlands giants are now looking at reigniting their pursuit during the off-season.

The Brighton star has been a standout performer on the south coast, with 118 appearances under his belt.

He has been a regular under Graham Potter this season, making 22 appearances across all competitions.

With Bissouma’s contract running out in 2023, Brighton know this summer could be the last chance to cash in.

Villa currently have the likes of John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Sanson to call on in midfield.

However, as revealed by Football Insider, Sanson will be told to find a new club this summer.
