Sources: Bournemouth in advanced talks to sign Newcastle United star Freddie Woodman

Bournemouth are in advanced talks to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, Football Insider understands.

Championship promotion hopefuls Bournemouth have made a move for former England Under-21 international Woodman after seeing Orjan Nyland sidelined for several weeks through injury.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bournemouth have held a long-term interest in Woodman having tried to sign him last summer.

Newcastle are willing to loan out the 24-year-old to free up a space in their Premier League squad and allow the keeper to get some valuable first-team action.

Woodman made four Premier League appearances for Newcastle at the start of the season due to the absence of Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow.

Dubravka picked up a long-term injury during the Euros and Darlow was sidelined with a severe case a Covid.

After being given his chance in the first team, Woodman conceded 12 goals in four games and was dropped in favour of the returning Darlow.

He has only made a matchday squad in the Premier League once since being dropped.

The stopper has plenty of Championship experience, making 95 appearances for Swansea over two loan spells.

His last outing for the Swans came in last season’s play-off final loss to Brentford.

There was Premier League interest in Woodman last summer (2021) as Football Insider revealed on July 18th that Leeds had pulled the plug on their pursuit of the stopper after submitting a loan-to-buy offer.

Bournemouth sit third in the Championship, one point off the automatic promotion places.

They most recently beat Barnsley 1-0 on Saturday (29 January).

In other news, Newcastle United have been tipped to sign their own Jordan Henderson after a £42million update.
