Sources: Brighton star Billy Gilmour set for summer move
Billy Gilmour will leave Brighton on loan next season, sources have told Football Insider.
Gilmour’s current contract runs until 2026 and a full transfer is unlikely at this stage but he will spend next season on loan.
Clubs in the English Championship as well as the Premier League are believed to be interested in the 21-year-old for the 2023-24 season.
The Scotland international has struggled throughout his professional career after joining the senior team at Chelsea in 2020.
During his spell at Chelsea, the Scot made 40 appearances for the under-21s and scored eight goals and offered up ten assists.
But his step up to the first team didn’t quite go as planned with just 22 appearances for the first team with no attacking returns.
The midfielder spent a season on loan at Norwich where he struggled to make a mark on the side before returning to Stamford Bridge.
Gilmour once again failed to stand out in the first team and joined Brighton on a permanent deal in September 2022.
Since his arrival at the AMEX, Gilmour has made ten appearances for Roberto de Zerbi’s side and has provided just one assist in those outings.
The Seagulls boss has previously urged the playmaker to be patient to get more game time but acknowledged it will be difficult with Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister proving to be big players for the high flying side.

At an international level, Gilmour has been an integral part of Steven Clarke’s Scotland side in recent campaigns.
Although he has made 16 appearances for his national side, the 21-year-old was an unused substitute in both of their Euro qualifiers this month.
