Sources: Celtic hit by transfer hammer blow
By Wayne Veysey
Bournemouth centre-forward Lys Mousset has snubbed an offer from Celtic to agree terms with Sheffield United, Football Insider understands.
The Hoops had looked to take advantage of the 23-year-old’s contract situation at the Vitality Stadium by trying to entice him to Parkhead as they looked to strengthen their attack.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider the club have been hit by a major blow after Mousset rejected their offer of a deal to agree terms with newly-promoted United.
This comes after Football Insider broke the news yesterday morning that United have agreed a fee with Bournemouth for £10million-valued Mousset.
It is a major blow for Celtic, who are in the market for a new striker this window to provide competition for Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths, who barely played last season due to off-field troubles.
Mousset is out of contract at Bournemouth next year and this had alerted Celtic to the possibility of making the former France Under-21 international a marquee summer signing.
But the striker now looks set to remain in England and wrap up a move to the Blades within the coming days.
He has scored five times in 71 Bournemouth appearances, nearly all of which have been as a sub, since signing from Le Havre in the summer of 2016.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that a player highly rated by Lennon is heading out of the club after completing a medical and agreeing a long-term contract with elite team.
