Sources: Celtic set sights on three summer deals Lennon ‘desperate’ to get done
Celtic are prioritising a permanent deal for Fraser Forster, a new contract for Odsonne Edouard and a new left-back this summer, Football Insider understands.
The Scottish giants are assessing reinforcements in all areas of their team in the upcoming transfer window – apart from at right-back.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the main targets nonetheless for Neil Lennon and the hierarchy are keeping hold of their two star men as well as recruiting an upgrade on the left side of defence.
Forster and Edouard have been the team’s two outstanding players in their treble defence this season, but neither are certain to return next season.
Forster, 32, is on a season-long loan from Southampton and has a salary of £70,000-a-week double Celtic’s top earner.
Edouard, 22, has so far rebuffed Celtic attempts to tie him to a new contract and will enter the final two years of his deal in the summer.
He is attracting strong interest from Premier League clubs as well as leading teams in his native France and on the continent.
Lennon is said to be “desperate” the two Scottish player of the year top contenders are in his team for next season.
As revealed by Football Insider last month, the northern Irishman’s other main priority is a new left-back to replace Boli Bolingoli.
Bolingoli, 24, was recruited last July from Rapid Vienna for around £3million, while Greg Taylor, 22, signed on deadline day from Kilmarnock.
Taylor has now made 13 SPL starts among 21 appearances for the Hoops and was the first choice on the left in Lennon’s favoured 3-5-2 formation before the season was suspended.
