Sources: Clubs race to sign Ipswich Town record-breaker Christian Walton

Multiple clubs are weighing up moves for Ipswich Town record-breaking goalkeeper Christian Walton this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Walton has been a stand-out performer for Ipswich this season, keeping seven consecutive clean sheets.

The shot-stopper has now gone longer without conceding a league goal than any other goalkeeper in the top four tiers this season – 686 minutes.

Unsurprisingly Walton’s stunning form has alerted a number of clubs who are planning to strengthen their goalkeeping departments in the summer transfer window.

Ipswich are determined to hold on to the 27-year-old, but they could face a major battle to keep the former Brighton shot-stopper if they fail to win promotion from League One this season.

The club are currently third in League One, just three points behind second-placed Sheffield Wednesday.

They are also five points off top of the table Plymouth Argyle who have played one extra game.

Walton’s current contract at Portman Road runs until 2024 but includes the option of a further 12 months.

The keeper joined the Blues from Brighton in January after a loan spell with the club.

Walton joined Brighton’s under-18s side in 2013 before working his way up to the first team but spent the majority of his time at the AMEX out on loan.

As a result, the shot-stopper made just six appearances for the first team during which he conceded five goals and kept two clean sheets.

Walton’s next test between the sticks is away to Derby on 1 April where he will look to continue his clean sheet record.

In other news, Chelsea now turn attention to Brighton star.
