Sources: Dundee United agree to sign Steven Fletcher after Stoke City exit

Dundee United are set to sign former Stoke City striker Steven Fletcher on a free transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 35-year-old is a free agent after leaving Stoke when his contract expired last week.

Fletcher has now agreed terms with Scottish outfit Dundee United and the deal is in the final stages.

The move marks a return to Scottish football for Fletcher after he started his career at Hibernian before spells with Burnley, Wolves, Sunderland, Marseille, Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke.

Fletcher scored three times in 35 Championship games, including 16 starts, for the Potters in 2021-22 as they finished 14th.

The former Scotland international will offer Dundee United vast experience having scored 155 games in 651 domestic games in his career thus far.

He will now move to Tannadice as Jack Ross looks set to build a squad capable of performing in Europe.

They jet off to Spain for their pre-season training camp next week before they begin their Europa League conference at the third qualifying round stage at the beginning of August.

Ross is yet to make any permanent signings at Dundee United since taking over from Tam Courts last month.

Football Insider reported on Thursday (7 July) that they had agreed a £300,000 fee with Man United for Dylan Levitt as well as personal terms with the player.

Dundee United finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership in 2021-22, 13 points behind third-place Hearts.

In other news, Stoke City are racing to sign a 24-year-old and £1.3million will seal the deal.
