Sources: Forest Green star Kane Wilson undergoing Bristol City medical after deal agreed

Forest Green Rovers defender Kane Wilson is undergoing a Bristol City medical, Football Insider understands.

The Championship club have beaten off interest from a number of other second-tier outfits to land the 22-year-old on a free transfer.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Wilson has agreed terms and the deal will be done once formalities are complete.

Wilson is regarded as one of the best young defenders in the Football League after playing a key role for Forest Green in their promotion to League One in 2021-22.

The West Brom youth product was named in the PFA’s League Two Team of the Year after his dazzling campaign.

Wilson notched three goals and 14 assists across 45 league appearances as Forest Green were promoted as champions of the fourth tier.

However, League One football was not enough to persuade the right-back to pledge his future to the Gloucestershire club – and he will now walk away for free.

The Birmingham-born ace had loan spells at Tranmere Rovers, Walsall, and Exeter City before joining Forest Green on a free transfer from West Brom in 2020.

Wilson, who is capped by England at Under-18 level, has racked up over 150 professional appearances in English football despite being just 22.

Nigel Pearson has been quick to bolster his Bristol City squad after a disappointing 17th-place finish in the 2021-22 campaign.

Bristol City

The Robins have already added Luton defender Kal Naismith and Oxford United’s Mark Sykes this summer.

Meanwhile, Forest Green have also lost midfield star Ebou Adams to the Championship after he joined Cardiff on a free transfer.
