Sources: Leicester City field £19m Youri Tielemans bid amid late Liverpool twist

Leicester City have received a bid of around £19million for Youri Tielemans from a mystery club, sources have told Football Insider.

The Belgium midfielder’s future has been up in the air after he rejected a new contract ahead of his current deal expiring in the summer of 2023.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with Tielemans all summer and Football Insider revealed last month (18 July) that Tielemans is keen on a move to the Emirates.

Liverpool have also been mooted as a potential destination for the 25-year-old after Jurgen Klopp confirmed he is in the market for a last-gasp midfielder signing.

CBS’ Ben Jacobs reported last week (27 August) that Liverpool are one of the sides interested in Tielemans

As quoted by The Daily Mail (26 August) Klopp replied with “we are looking for it”, when asked if Liverpool were going to be active in the final days of the window.

Leicester had been hoping for higher offers for Tielemans, who has previously been valued by them at over £50m.

Tielemans has started three of Leicester’s opening four games of the new season with his side yet to pick up a win.

He has been a key player for the Foxes since he arrived from Monaco, initially on loan, in January 2019.

The midfielder has made 163 total appearances for Leicester and played an integral role in the club’s FA Cup victory during the 2020-21 season, scoring the only goal of the game in the final against Chelsea.

He has also made 52 appearances for Belgium and is expected to be part of their squad for this year’s Qatar World Cup.

Liverpool

Liverpool picked up their first win of the season on Saturday (27 August) as they beat Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield.

The Reds are next in action against Newcastle United on Wednesday (31 August).
