Sources: Leicester City submit £15m bid for Stoke City defender Harry Souttar

Leicester City have made a new £15million bid for Stoke City centre-back Harry Souttar, sources have told Football Insider.

The Foxes have already had a £10million bid rejected for the 24-year-old but have returned with an improved offer in the hope of securing his signature before Tuesday’s deadline.

Brendan Rodgers is desperate to improve his defensive department this month and has identified Australia international Souttar as an ideal target.

Football Insider reported on 20 January that Leicester City were preparing a £15million bid for Souttar and the Premier League side have now given the green light for the bid to be submitted.

Souttar enjoyed a very impressive World Cup campaign in Qatar with Australia, with his solid defensive performances helping his nation to the round of 16 before losing to eventual winners Argentina.

After his bright World Cup campaign, Souttar returned to Stoke where he has become a key member of the squad.

He missed the start of the 2022/23 season through a cruciate ligament rupture, but returned to full fitness in early November and has been a regular starter since.

Souttar started his career in Scotland after being raised in Aberdeen – he joined the Dundee United academy during his childhood and broke through to the first team in 2015.

After only making a handful of performances, Stoke signed an 18-year-old Souttar from Dundee United in 2016 after being impressed by his performances north of the border.

A loan to Ross County followed in 2018 before successive temporary stints at Fleetwood Town in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons.

He’s been a regular starter for Stoke ever since impressing out on loan and now boasts 61 Championship appearances for the Potters.
