Liverpool have opened talks over signing Porto sensation Luis Diaz for £37.5million after hijacking Tottenham talks, Football Insider understands.
The Merseyside giants are negotiating what would be a sensational late-window deal after being given the green light by Jurgen Klopp.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Liverpool are now in pole position to sign Diaz and are hopeful of completing a deal by Monday night.
Tottenham had made a move for the Colombia international, 25, and had held talks with Porto over a deal.
But Liverpool have ambushed their Premier League rivals and are now preparing a bid that could seal the transfer.
The Reds are hoping to strike a deal of around £37.5million for the Colombia international.
The Colombia international has been on the Merseyside giants’ radar over the past year.
They have finally pulled the trigger on making a move.
The news will come as a big blow to Tottenham, who had hoped to make Diaz their first signing under Antonio Conte.
As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (24 January), the Italian manager is putting “huge pressure” on Daniel Levy for new signings.
However, it appears as though they are set to miss out on Diaz.
The 31-cap Colombia star has caught the attention of talent spotters all across Europe with his dazzling attacking displays.
A left-winger by trade, he has netted 41 times in 125 appearances this season.
This season has seen him score 16 times in 28 games.
However, he drew a blank against Liverpool when the sides met in the Champions League.
