Sources: Luke Bolton in advanced talks to join Salford City from Man City

Manchester City winger Luke Bolton is in advanced talks to join Salford City before Monday’s transfer deadline, Football Insider understands.

Bolton, 22, is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium this summer after coming through the ranks.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Salford have beaten off interest from clubs higher up the leagues to agree a deal with Bolton.

The youngster, who can play as a winger or as a full-back, has had spells out on loan at Wycombe Wanderers, Luton Town and Dundee United during the last three seasons.

As revealed by Football Insider on Sunday (30th January), Barnsley made a late enquiry about signing Bolton permanently.

However, the Tykes look set to miss out to League Two outfit Salford.

A graduate of City’s academy, Bolton has never played for the senior side.

He was however an unused substitute for a League Cup clash against Burton Albion in 2019.

Much of the midfielder’s formative career has been spent out on loan.

He played 30 and 28 times respectively for Dundee United and Luton Town, with another 10 games under his belt for Wycombe.

Bolton’s contract situation means City have given him the green light to leave before tonight’s transfer deadline.

Speaking back in August, City’s academy head coach Brian Barry-Murphy admitted the versatile midfielder was looking for another loan move during the summer window

However, he remained in the north west and has played eight times for the under-23s this season.

He has now agreed a deal in principle over a late-window move to Salford.

The Ammies currently sit 10th in the League Two table.
