Sources: Major update on ex-Sheffield United and Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder and Huddersfield Town job

Former Sheffield United and Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder is not in the running for the Huddersfield Town manager’s job, sources have told Football Insider.

The Terriers are searching for a new manager following the sacking of Mark Fotheringham after just four months in charge.

Wilder, 55, who has been out of work since being sacked by Middlesbrough last October, is the current bookies favourite to take over at Huddersfield.

But it is believed that Wilder is not currently considering the vacancy at the Championship strugglers.

Huddersfield Town find themselves in the Championship relegation spots after just seven wins in 29 matches, and they are in the hunt for a new manager ahead of games against fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic and Stoke City this week.

Wilder’s managerial career started at Alfreton Town in 2001, where he won a remarkable four trophies during his 27-week stay at the club.

Following his incredible success with Alfreton, Wilder was appointed manager at Halifax Town the following season -a club he had played for two seasons prior as a player.

Wilder spent six years at Halifax, taking charge of more than 300 games before he departed after the club’s liquidation in 2008.

Another six-year stint followed at Oxford United, and Wilder managed promotion to the English Football League during his first full season at the club.

However, Wilder resigned at Oxford in 2014 after receiving an offer from League Two side Northampton Town.

He steered the club clear of relegation in his first season and went on to win the League Two title just two seasons later.

Wilder’s best-known managerial stint then came at boyhood club Sheffield United, where he led them from League One up to the Premier League in just three years.
