Sources: Marseille race Newcastle to sign Celtic midfielder Ntcham by tomorrow

Marseille are rivalling Newcastle United in the race to sign Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham, Football Insider understands.

The two sides are set to go head to head to try and sign the 24-year-old ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Marseille are set to offer the midfielder the chance to move back to his native France.

Ntcham has made 23 appearances for the Hoops this season but he has fallen out of favour over the past couple of months and has not started a league game since October.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that the former France Under-21 has been given the green light to leave Parkhead.

The Glasgow giants have slashed their price tag for the midfielder to £7million, with the club willing to consider both permanent and loan offers.

He is deemed surplus to requirements by Neil Lennon following the meteoric rise of David Turnbull and Ismaila Soro.

Ntcham moved to Celtic from Manchester City in July 2017 for a fee of £4.5million and his 147 appearances for the club since have yielded 24 goals and 13 assists.

Newcastle United are in the market for a midfielder before tomorrow’s transfer deadline and if a move is successful, it could spark Matty Longstaff’s exit from the club.

Football Insider revealed earlier today that Watford have opened talks with the Magpies over a loan deal for the 20-year-old ahead of tomorrow’s cut-off.

In other news, Manchester United have put a block on one of their first team players leaving the club amid interest from Newcastle United.
