Sources: Middlesbrough in advanced talks to sign two mystery strikers

Middlesbrough are in advanced talks to sign two mystery strikers on loan next month, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

Manager Chris Wilder has made striking reinforcements one of his main priorities at the Riverside.

A Boro source has told Football Insider that talks are underway with two of their top targets after they verbally agreed loans with their respective clubs.

Middlesbrough are confident of completing two striker deals in the January transfer window.

As revealed by Football Insider last week (8 December), Boro and Stoke City are both keen on signing Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle next month.

However, Wilder’s men are looking to add at least two hitmen to their squad during the winter window.

The Teesside side have lost just once in the Championship since Wilder took the reins, following Neil Warnock’s departure early last month.

The former Sheffield United boss has lifted Boro from 14th in the second tier into ninth place – just five points off a playoff berth.

However, Middlesbrough have netted the joint-least goals in the Championship’s top half this season, with 24 in 22 games.

Andraz Sporar and Duncan Watmore are Wilder’s first-choice strike partnership.

The pair have scored three league goals each this term.

The Teesside club look set to make room for a double swoop in January by letting Uche Ikpeazu move on.

Football Insider revealed last month (22 November) that Wilder has given the green light for Ikpeazu to leave in the New Year.

The 26-year-old has failed to start in any of the former Sheffield United manager’s five matches in charge.

The winter window opens on 1 January.
