Sources: Mohamed Salah is not happy at Liverpool after Arne Slot decision

Mohamed Salah is unhappy about having dropped out of the starting XI at Liverpool and could now consider his long-term future at the club.

The 33-year-old started on the bench during the 2-0 win against West Ham and in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland, coming from the bench after half-time in the latter.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Salah is not happy playing a bit-part role in the side after firing Liverpool to the Premier League title with his record goals and assists tally last season, despite recent poor displays.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot‘s decision to leave the Egypt international out of his starting XI has led to growing suggestions that he could leave Liverpool in the summer.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider last month that Liverpool could accept a “massive” offer for Salah from the Saudi Pro League.

Mohamed Salah unhappy at Liverpool treatment

Mick Brown told Football Insider on 27 November that Slot is facing growing problems at Liverpool, the biggest of which is the downturn in his star players’ displays.

Salah has been cited as a major part of those problems, with his on-pitch struggles so far this season meaning the Reds have lacked a major influence in their front line.

Those performances have led to Slot’s “brave” decision to leave him out of the starting XI, but given the influence and stature of the Liverpool winger, all eyes are on his future.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Obviously that speculation has resurfaced because he’s found himself out of the starting XI for the last two games.

“He’s started consecutive games now on the bench, against West Ham and Sunderland.

“You know one’s things for certain, Salah won’t be happy on the bench at Liverpool, he won’t want to play a bit-part role in the side after his unbelievable performances last season.

“It’s a difficult time for him and a difficult time for everybody in the Liverpool squad, they’re not performing at the levels they should be.

“Speculation will start to bubble again now because he’s not in that starting line-up for Arne Slot’s team. He’s made a brave decision to leave him out of the last two games.

“They’ve got a win and a draw in those two games, but it’ll be interesting to see if Salah is restored to the starting line-up against Leeds this weekend.”

Liverpool plot moves to sign Salah replacement

Football Insider revealed on 21 October that Liverpool have no plans to sell Salah in 2026 and are hopeful he will get back to his best form this season.

Salah signed a contract extension in April which runs until 2027, and he is currently considered unlikely to leave the club before the expiry of his current deal.

However, work has already begun to identify long-term replacements for the winger amid concerns about his performances so far this season.

Football Insider revealed on 12 September that Liverpool are lining up replacements for Salah with a long-term plan being put in place for the 33-year-old.

On their current list of options, the likes of Brighton star Yankuba Minteh and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo have both emerged as targets.
