Sources: Newcastle leapfrog Celtic in race to sign Carter-Vickers from Tottenham
Newcastle United are the new frontrunners in the race to sign Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The USA centre-back, 23, is a target of Celtic and they had been well placed to win the race for his signature.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that Newcastle are now the favourites to land Carter-Vickers following talks.

He has another year left on his contract after Spurs activated a 12-month option in his deal.
That was a move to protect the value of the player, who will be sold if their £5million asking price is met.
Both Newcastle and Celtic are in the market for centre-backs this summer and have identified Carter-Vickers as a young and affordable target.
The Bhoys, who are expecting to lose Kristoffer Ajer this summer, had lined up a move for the Spurs man.
However, the Magpies have now pushed ahead of the Glasgow giants in the race for his capture.
The eight-cap USA international is currently back in pre-season training with Tottenham after spending last season on loan at Bournemouth.
He made a total of 26 appearances across all competitions on the south coast.
The centre-back played every minute of the Cherries’ final 19 league games to help the club reach the Championship play-offs.
A graduate of the Tottenham academy, the Southend-born enforcer has made just four first-team appearances for the Lilywhites.
Instead, he has spent much of his career in the Championship on loan.
He has made over 100 second-tier appearances playing for Sheffield United, Bournemouth, Swansea, Ipswich, Luton and Stoke.
Carter-Vickers, who is eligible to play for the United States through his father, made his international debut back in 2017.
