Sources: Newcastle United close in on £60m Bruno Guimaraes deal
Newcastle United are making progress on agreeing a £200,000-a-week new contract with Bruno Guimaraes, sources have told Football Insider.
The midfielder, 25, has been targeted by Europe’s elite clubs after making a huge impact since his £40million St James’ Park arrival.
Newcastle have made preliminary contact with Guimaraes‘ camp and hope he will put pen to paper on a lucrative contract extension in the coming months.

The deal would be worth up to £60million in total and see him become the highest-paid player in Newcastle’s history.
As revealed by Football Insider (15 October), the north-east giants are willing to offer the Brazilian a huge pay hike that would take him to around £200,000-a-week and extend his deal by two more years.
His current £120,000-a-week contract runs until the summer of 2026.
Guimaraes has helped to transform Eddie Howe’s side into Champions League contenders after arriving at the club in January 2021.
The Brazilian has scored eight goals in his 32 appearances for the Magpies with his form recognised by Tite as he was selected to go to the Qatar World Cup.
However, Guimaraes failed to make an impact at the tournament with Fred, Lucas Paqueta and Casemiro selected ahead of him.
On his return to Newcastle, he helped to knock Bournemouth out of the League Cup (20 December), securing the Magpies a place in the quarter-finals for only the third time in the last 16 years.

Guimaraes is yet to experience a loss this season as he missed Newcastle’s only defeat with a hamstring injury.
Howe’s side are next in action against Leicester on Boxing Day.
