Sources: Newcastle United in advanced talks over £30m Miguel Almiron deal

Newcastle United remain locked in advanced talks with Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab about a fee for forward Miguel Almiron, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the Magpies are keen to bank a profit on the 29-year-old as they look to fund a rebuild of their squad in future windows.

It is believed Almiron is now “very close” to sealing a Saudi move before next week’s transfer deadline.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (23 January) that the Paraguayan has accepted a “huge” offer from Al-Shabab.

The two clubs remain locked in discussions over a potential price tag with Newcastle keen to rake in £30million, a £9million profit on his arrival five years ago.

Almiron has been a popular figure during his time at St James’ Park but Eddie Howe and club chiefs are ready to sanction his sale in the mid-season window.

The ex-Atlanta United star has made 31 appearances across all competitions this term, notching five goals and two assists.

He will turn 30 next month and is out of contract on Tyneside in June 2026.

The best return of Almiron’s career came last season when he notched 11 goals and four assists in 41 games across all competitions.
