Sources: Newcastle United plotting to sign Youri Tielemans as talks revealed

Newcastle United are interested in signing Youri Tielemans this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Premier League rivals Arsenal, as well as Spanish giants Barcelona, are also keen on the Leicester City midfielder.

On Wednesday (5 April), this site revealed that the Gunners have opened talks with the 25-year-old as they look to secure a deal in the summer.

Liverpool, who have been linked with a move for the centre-mid, have pulled out of the race to sign him as he was deemed by the recruitment team “not mobile enough”.

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree a new deal with the Foxes as clubs chase him on a free transfer.

But, Football Insider has learned that the Belgian’s wage demands are “high”.

Tielemans joined the East Midlands club from Monaco in 2019 after a season on loan at the King Power Stadium.

Tielemans was an important part of Brendan Rodgers’ side and has made 28 appearances for the Foxes across all competitions this season and scored four goals and provided one assist.

Leicester parted ways with Rodgers on Sunday (2 April) after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace that dropped them into the relegation zone.

But, the club’s first match without Rodgers at the helm did not go according to plan and after a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Tuesday (4 April), Leicester are 19th in the league and facing the increasing threat of relegation.
