Sources: Newcastle United ready to accept ‘£20m’ Callum Wilson bid

Newcastle United will demand a total package worth £20million if Callum Wilson is to leave the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (22 January) that the Magpies have rejected a loan offer from Atletico Madrid to take Wilson on loan for the remainder of this season.

The Spanish giants included an option to buy in their proposal – but Newcastle will require an obligation agreement to allow the striker to depart this month.

It is believed Atleti will not return with a second bid at this time and will instead pursue Juventus’ Moises Kean.

But AC Milan have also been widely linked with a potential January swoop for the England international.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that it is now very likely Wilson will leave Newcastle permanently before the start of next season.

Sources say the Magpies will need to “wheel and deal” to add new players to their squad and the 31-year-old is seen as a saleable asset.

The forward is just the latest Newcastle star to attract interest this month – with Football Insider revealing on Tuesday (23 January) that midfielder Miguel Almiron has agreed terms with Saudi side Al-Shabab.

Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Alexander Isak are also being widely linked with other clubs with Financial Fair Play restrictions hitting the Magpies hard in the market.

Wilson is only under contract at St James’ Park until June 2025 after being handed a new deal last year.

He has hit eight goals in 20 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2023-24 campaign.

But as with other campaigns, his involvement for Newcastle has been limited by injuries – with a calf problem currently keeping him out of Eddie Howe’s starting lineup.

Wilson joined the Tynesiders in 2020 for a reported £20million and has hit 46 goals in 102 games for the club.
