Sources: Newcastle United star Joe White given green light to move after deal terminated

Multiple League One and League Two clubs have registered their interest in signing Newcastle United midfielder Joe White before the transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

The central midfielder, 21, enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Crewe Alexandra in the first half of the season before being recalled by Newcastle earlier this month due to their injury problems.

He came close to joining Stockport County, sources say, before the deal collapsed at the eleventh hour.

Now, White could take the step up to the third tier after he was given the green light to leave by next Thursday.

He is yet to make a senior appearance for the Magpies but has earned regular first-team experience on loan spells with Hartlepool United, Exeter City and the Railwaymen.

On Tyneside, White has made a combined 75 appearances for the under-18s and under-23s, notching a total of 13 goals and 14 assists.

He joined Newcastle from hometown club Carlisle United in 2016 and penned his first professional contract in 2019.

White thrived during his spell at Crewe and scored his first-ever senior goal in his fifth league game for Lee Bell’s side in their 2-0 win against Gillingham in October.

The Englishman’s versatility has allowed him to play on both wings, in attacking midfield and defensive midfield, but he is predominantly fielded as a central midfielder.

He has also been recognised internationally having made three appearances for England’s under-18s.
