Rangers senior recruitment man Phil Cowen is set to join Arsenal in January after working his notice at Ibrox, sources have told Football Insider.

He decided to leave the Glasgow side after two years to accept an offer from Arsenal to head up their academy scouting department.

The Ibrox academy has produced many top talents in recent years who have earned senior appearances for the club including Leon King and Alex Lowry.

Lowry, 20, is currently earning valuable senior minutes at Hearts while King made his first appearance of the season for the Gers in their 1-0 win against Dundee on Saturday (9 December).

20-year-old Ross McCausland, another academy graduate, has emerged as a favourite since Philippe Clement joined the side and recently signed a new deal at Ibrox.

Cowen brought highly-rated 17-year-old goalkeeper Mason Munn to Rangers, and as revealed by Football Insider (14 December) he is being tracked by a number of Premier League clubs – including Arsenal.

He has extensive experience in the field and worked for Rangers In The Community as an academy executive and has been a scout for 15 years.
