Sources: Portsmouth line up new Jamie Lindsay bid after Rotherham reject offer

Portsmouth have had a bid rejected for Rotherham midfielder Jamie Lindsay, Football Insider understands.

The former Celtic youngster, 26, is out of contract at the Millers this summer.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Rotherham have rejected Portsmouth’s first bid for Lindsay and the south-coast club are preparing a new offer.

Derby

Portsmouth are working overtime to land the midfielder before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Lindsay has made 21 appearances in all competitions for Rotherham so far this season, but only 11 of those have come as a starter in Paul Warne’s side.

He appeared off the bench in yesterday’s (29 January) 2-0 win over Crewe Alexandra.

Since joining the Millers in July 2019, he has made 86 appearances for the club.

35 of those came in the Championship, where he started 28 of Rotherham’s 38 league games during the 2020-21 season.

However, following the Millers’ relegation, he has struggled to re-establish himself as a key player under Warne.

Lindsay has also featured in the EFL Trophy and FA Cup this season but only started in both EFL Trophy games.

Rotherham remain in the hunt for an instant return to the second tier and moved to the top of the table after their win over Crewe.

However, second-placed Wigan have two games in hand as they also look to return to the Championship.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth sit 11th in League One, nine points off the playoff places.

They are next in action against 15th-placed Charlton tomorrow night (31 January).

In other news, Peterborough have opened talks to re-sign on of their former players.
