Sources: Preston set to sign Gordon as King closes in on Everton move

Anthony Gordon is set to join Preston North End on loan as Everton finalise the Josh King deal, Football Insider understands.

The 19-year-old is highly-rated at Goodison Park and has played seven times for the club this season.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider an agreement has been reached for Gordon to head to Preston for the rest of the season.

This site understands Everton launched a last-gasp move for the Norway international after Cenk Tosun completed a move back to Besiktas.

Preston and their Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers were both in talks over a loan deal for Gordon earlier this month and it appears Preston have won the race.

It would be North End’s sixth loan signing of the window after the additions of Jayson Molumby, Daniel Iversen, Ched Evans, Greg Cunningham and Liam Lindsay.

EFL clubs are only allowed five loan players in a matchday squad meaning at least one of their new additions will have to miss out.

North End are crying out for some creativity having scored just one goal in their last five Championship games.

Gordon, a winger who is able to operate on both flanks, has played 20 times for the Everton first-team since making his debut in December 2017.

He is yet to find the net in professional football but has provided five assists including one in the Premier League.

The England Under-20 international has scored six goals and provided two assists in nine games for Everton Under-23s in Premier League 2 this term.

In other news, an Everton transfer has collapsed at the eleventh hour.
