Sources: Rangers offer Alex Lowry £5,000-a-week as new talks lined up
Rangers have offered teen sensation Alex Lowry £5,000-a-week to stay, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Glasgow giants are trying to secure the future of the 18-year-old after, as revealed by this site (16 February), he knocked back their opening contract offer.
A Rangers source has told Football Insider that the club have returned with an improved offer for Lowry that’s worth more than £250,000-a-year.
The teenager and his family are set to have a meeting with Giovanni van Bronckhorst and club officials this week.
It is a clear sign of how far the Glasgow giants are willing to go to tie down a player they regard to be of huge potential.
Rangers want him to agree a deal running to summer 2025 and that would replace his existing agreement, which expires next year.
The club believe the youngster has huge potential and are aware of interest from south of the border.
Lowry has made one appearance in the Scottish Premiership this season.
The midfielder played the full 90 minutes of a 1-0 win over Livingston on 26 January.
In total, he has made four appearances for the Gers with his other three outings all coming in the Scottish Cup.
Lowry scored on his debut for Rangers – a 4-0 victory over Stirling Albion on 21 January.
The Scotland under-19 international can play in various attacking positions, including behind the main striker and on the right and left flanks.
