Sources: Kyle Joseph set for Oxford United medical today after Sheffield Wednesday blow

Swansea City striker Kyle Joseph is due for a medical at Oxford United on Wednesday night (10 August) after agreeing a move, sources have told Football Insider.

The striker, 20, has been given permission by the Swans to travel for talks and a medical at the Kassam Stadium.

Joseph is down the pecking order at Swansea and boss Russell Martin is happy to loan the former Wigan Athletic youngster out to get valuable first-team football.

Oxford have beaten off interest from League One rivals Sheffield Wednesday to land Joseph and the player is expected to seal his move to the club in the next 24 hours.

The U’s beat Swansea on penalties in the EFL Cup first round on Tuesday (9 August) and Joseph sat out the game.

He has not made a match-day squad for the Swans this season after being a bit-part player in the second half of last season.

After scoring four times and providing two assists in 19 League One games on loan at Cheltenham Town in the first half of the campaign, he returned to Swansea and featured 10 times from the bench.

Across his time at Cheltenham and Wigan Athletic, Joseph has 12 goal contributions in 37 appearances, including 25 starts.

Oxford will be hoping he has an immediate impact at the Kassam Stadium after they narrowly missed out on a play-off place last term.

Karl Robinson’s side registered their first league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Cambridge United on Saturday (6 August).

They are next in action when they visit Bristol Rovers at the weekend (13 August).

In other news, Swansea City have made a move to sign a Tottenham sensation.
