Sources: Tottenham in race to sign £86m striker amid Dominic Solanke concerns

Dominic Solanke has struggled with several bouts of injuries at Tottenham as the club ponder over his long-term playing future.

Solanke has a terrible injury record as he continues to spend much of his Spurs career on the sidelines.

The former Bournemouth striker hasn’t featured since the 2-0 victory over Man City on 23 August with Thomas Frank originally stating Solanke would only miss a few games for Tottenham.

This worsened significantly with Solanke forced to have surgery on a reoccurring ankle issue which will keep him out for months.

Given Randal Kolo Muani is coming back to full fitness and Richarlison’s historic injury struggles, the Lilywhites are contemplating a huge striker bid in the January transfer window.

Injury record haunts Dominic Solanke as Tottenham eye up Samu Aghehowa

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Spurs are weighing the possibility of going after Porto’s Samu Aghehowa.

Sources told Football Insider back in October 2024 that Tottenham sent scouts to watch Aghehowa, indicating the clubs early interest in him.

The Spaniard has been on the radar of several high-profile clubs yet, with the Lilywhites’ set of injury-prone forwards, there is serious intent to go after the high-flying striker.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I’m sure he’s [Aghehowa] somebody who’s maybe on the list of Tottenham and other clubs in the Premier League.

Chelsea [came] very close to signing him a couple of transfer windows ago before the player decided to stay.

“Then Newcastle had him on their list in the summer window as they looked at potential replacements for Alexander Isak before signing Nick Woltemade.

“So I think he’s a top young player, 21 years old, Spain international. It’s no surprise that Tottenham and all these other big clubs in the Premier League are looking at him.

“He’s a player with huge potential and could really develop into one of the best strikers in Europe, if he continues his rise. I think that’s why these Premier League clubs are looking at him.

“He has got a release clause in his contract at Porto of around £86million, which is a big price tag on his head.

“But, I think if he continues what he’s doing right now and develops as a player and fulfils his potential, that could be a decent fee for somebody who wants to take him.

“[For] Tottenham, again, the number nine is coming a bit of an issue for them in some respects. Solanke’s had his injury problems so far this season.

“Then Richarlison has obviously slotted in and done quite well there, but there’s been ongoing speculation in regards to his future.

“Porto will be doing well to hang on to him [Aghehowa] in the next couple of transfer windows because I’m sure that interest will remain.”

Harry Kane Tottenham reunion to be put on hold as solution to striker woes remains uncertain

Sources told Football Insider that Tottenham would try to persuade an emotional Harry Kane to return to Tottenham.

Yet, recent developments have found that Bayern Munich are preparing contract talks with Kane to keep him at the club beyond June 2027.

The news will be a major blow to Frank who was candid about his openness for a homecoming for the Englishman.

However, an extended stay in Germany looks to be on the cards as the Lilywhites turn their attention elsewhere to solve their injury-ridden striker problem.
