Sources: Tottenham set aside ‘huge’ sum to push through striker deal

Tottenham have set aside significant funds to land a prolific new striker following the sale of Harry Kane earlier this month, sources have told Football Insider.

Richarlison has led the line for Spurs following the England captain’s departure, but it is believed the club plan to add a big signing before the end of the transfer window on 1 September.

Ange Postecoglou’s side raked in a reported £86million initial fee from Bayern Munich for Kane, which could rise to £100million after add-ons.

Tottenham are now set to move for their top targets, with a well-placed source revealing the club have a “huge” budget to get the right man through the door.

One such target is Gift Orban, who has already scored six goals in six games for KAA Gent so far this season.

However, Football Insider revealed on Monday (21 August) that Fulham are ready to challenge Tottenham for the 21-year-old’s signature.

Orban only joined Gent in January but managed 20 goals and two assists in 22 appearances in the second half of the 2022-23 campaign.

Meanwhile, reports have suggested that Romelu Lukaku of Chelsea is also on the shortlist at Spurs.

Sources told Football Insider on Monday (21 August) that Lukaku is not towards the top of the Lilywhites’ shortlist.

The Belgium international has been widely linked with Inter Milan, Juventus and a host of Saudi Pro League clubs.

Lukaku managed 14 goals and seven assists back on loan at Inter last season after forcing an exit from Chelsea in the summer window last year (2022).

Tottenham

Tottenham have lined up with Richarlison spearheading the attack in their first two games against Brentford and Man United this season.

However, the Brazil international is yet to score and managed just one Premier League strike in the 2022-23 campaign.
