Sources: Tottenham work on striker signing, Richarlison plan revealed

Tottenham are looking to offload Richarlison in January with the striker not the “answer” to their attacking woes.

Sources told Football Insider that Tottenham are planning attacking reinforcements in January after their evident struggles in front of goal this season.

Richarlison and Dominic Solanke could both leave Tottenham to fund said moves as Thomas Frank urgently looks for ways to get the best out of his side.

Amid uncertainty over his future at the club, Everton could bring Richarlison back to the club if he is not wanted by Spurs.

Richarlison doesn’t fit profile to be playing as ‘main striker’ for Tottenham

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Brazil international is not deemed to be the solution to solving the Lilywhites’ misfiring attack.

Moreover, with Randal Kolo Muani scoring his first Tottenham goals against PSG on 26 November, there is hope he can be the right man to lead the line if a forward cannot be acquired in January.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “He’s doing the best he can right now, Richarlison, to try and score goals for Tottenham.

“Tottenham’s top goalscorer this season, six goals and two assists in 20 appearances in all competitions but, I still don’t think he is probably the answer to Tottenham’s issues.

“For me I still think Richarlison is probably best playing off as a wide forward rather than as a number nine.

“So, we know that Tottenham are in the market for a new number nine in January, if they’re able to bring one in, and also they’ve missed Dominic Solanke this season as well through injury. He’s hardly figured at all under Thomas Frank.

“Richarlison has stepped up, he’s done okay in places but I think Tottenham would prefer an out-and-out number nine to be playing as their main striker in the team.”

Ivan Toney reunion fading away for Thomas Frank

If the Lilywhites are to part with the ex-Watford frontman, then a new striker has to be swiftly identified and signed.

However, sources told Football Insider that target Ivan Toney is happy in Saudi Arabia and is unlikely to move to Tottenham.

The 28-year-old has been enjoying his football with Al-Ahli and is on extortionately high wages, something Spurs would struggle to match if they brought him in.

Toney and Frank worked productively together at Brentford, yet hopes of a reunion seem to be slipping away.
