Rangers troll Scottish Government minister on Twitter over Gerrard appointment
Rangers have sent a fantastic Twitter response to a Scottish Government minister after he posted a “spoiler” claiming Steven Gerrard wouldn’t be named as Rangers manager.
Humza Yousaf, the Scottish Government Minister for Transport, had made the comment on his personal Twitter account on April 26th, quoting an STV News story about Gerrard potentially moving to Ibrox, before the Ibrox giants posted their incredible response – with a tongue-in-cheek nod to Yousaf’s role within government.
The Liverpool icon was confirmed as the new Gers manager on Friday after agreeing a four-year deal to replace Graeme Murty from June 1st and will have had an eye on Ibrox as Jimmy Nicholl led the side to a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock 24 hours later.
Football Insider verdict
Gerrard has brought a lot of new eyeballs to Scottish football over the last few days and Rangers have really stepped their game up with all the added attention. The tweet to Humza Yousaf is a rare funny tweet from an official club account and has already been garnering huge attention from Gers fans. In fairness to Yousaf, there were lots of Rangers fans who also doubted that Gerrard would ever be named as Murty’s replacement although as Friday’s official confirmation drew closer, most had already been convinced it was not only happening but the best move for the Gers. There will no doubt be some who will find reason to be upset by the Gers’ tweet however the Ibrox giants’ social media team should be applauded for getting this one spot one.
