Stan Collymore delivers his verdict on Nottingham Forest after win v Aston Villa
By Amir Mir
Stan Collymore has stated that he is “delighted” that there is a “nice feeling” at Nottingham Forest after they beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Saturday evening.
Former Villa and Forest striker Collymore believes the change of fortune was “much-needed” at the club following a turbulent few months.
Owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi saw a takeover of the Midlands club collapse in January, the failed takeover was then followed by the sacking for Phillipe Montanier after six months.
Since then caretaker boss Gary Brazil has taken charge of the club and he has guided them to a number of crucial wins.
Forest’s win in front of their own supporters was their third victory in three home matches and their first against Villa since the 1990’s.
Despite being a Villa supporter, former Premier League player Collymore was pleased that Forest secured the win as posted on his personal Twitter account.
“Delighted that there’s a nice feeling around the City Ground again,” said Collymore.
Britt Assombalonga and teenager Ben Brereton were the goalscorers for Forest, cancelling out Jonathan Kodjia’s opener in the first half.
Forest are now in 15th place in the Championship table on 36 points from their 30 games, level with Villa who have a game in hand on their rivals as they chase an unlikely promotion.
Those promotion hopes for Villa may now have faded away as Steve Bruce’s side are 13 points adrift of the play-off places despite buying eight players in January.
Nonetheless, Brazil’s side will be focusing on their own matters and their next encounter which is against Alex Neil’s Norwich.
Meanwhile, Bruce’s side have a home clash against Ipswich Town and despite Villa’s troubles away from home, they are still the only unbeaten team at home in the second tier this season.
