Stan Collymore has slammed Aston Villa owner Tony Xia on Twitter after the club suffered another defeat.

The Midlands club were beaten 1-0 by Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich on Saturday afternoon at Villa Park – their first defeat on home soil this term.

Collymore delivered a no-holds-barred verdict on the club’s meltdown at the recently relegated Premier League side continues to fall.

Steve Bruce’s s side have lost six matches since the turn of the year and have failed to pick up a single win in 2017.

As a result, they sit 17th in the Championship table, now in danger, as they are seven points off the drop zone.

After the Ipswich loss, former Liverpool striker Collymore did not hold back in his criticism of the club, especially of the owner as posted on his personal Twitter account.

“Owner hired everyone at the club and waxed lyrical about Wyness, Round, 2 managers and lots of players. On his watch,” said Collymore.

Owner Xia purchased the club from the much-criticised Randy Lerner in June following the club’s relegation from the top tier.

The Chinese businessman brought in his own people, with Keith Wyness added as a chief executive following his decades of work at the likes of Aberdeen and Everton.

Xia then decided to appoint former Champions League winning boss Roberto Di Matteo as manager, but he sacked the Italian after 11 games.

In September, former Manchester United and Everton assistant Steve Round was appointed as head of recruitment after the club had purchased nine players in the summer.

When Bruce took over the reigns of the club in mid-October, he decided to add eight more fresh faces to his squad in January as he aimed to push for an unlikely promotion charge.

They are now 16 points off the top six as they will be looking to ensure they don’t fall into deeper trouble.
