Stefanos Tzimas to Newcastle: O’Rourke shares transfer update today

Newcastle United are monitoring Stefanos Tzimas to add further competition to the striking department, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Premier League giants are “in the market for a young striker.”

Eddie Howe wants further competition for Alexander Isak, and Tzimas is seen as someone who could learn under the Sweden international.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that a move for the 18-year-old would be a “massive gamble,” but is one that the Magpies are considering.

The teenage striker has a price tag the teenage of £15million, which could end up rising before the summer transfer window if he continues to perform well.

Tzimas has scored five goals and provided one assist in 10 games across all competitions during his loan spell at Nuremberg so far this season.

Newcastle are not the only club weighing up a potential move or the youngster as Tottenham and West Ham are also interested in him.

However, finances could prove to be a problem for Newcastle despite them being one of the richest football clubs in the world.

Football Insider revealed the club could end up selling Isak in a bid to aid their financial fair play status as they want to avoid any potential profit and sustainability punishments.

Howe has seen his attacking options stretched this season with Callum Wilson yet to kick a ball due to a back injury.

The experienced forward has suffered an injury-plagued career at St. James’ Park, which is why Howe wants further options.
