Steven Gerrard return: Odds slashed on Liverpool legend sealing Premier League manager’s job

Steven Gerrard is increasingly likely to replace Scott Parker at Burnley.

Parker led Burnley back to the Premier League last season as they broke all kinds of defensive records in the Championship.

His side have struggled to adapt to the top flight in this campaign, however, with just 12 points from their 20 games so far to sit in 19th and nine points from safety as it stands.

Football Insider’s sources previously revealed that the Burnley board did not want to sack Parker, but a recent run of 11 games without a win has left him in real danger of being dismissed.

The Clarets’ chiefs could soon be on the lookout for a new manager to take over at Turf Moor, and Gerrard may be the one to take charge next after new developments.

Steven Gerrard now second favourite to be Burnley’s next manager

Gerrard has been out of work since he left Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq by mutual consent in January 2025.

Rangers held talks with Gerrard over a return to Ibrox in October after the sacking of Russell Martin, but he turned down the opportunity to manage there again and remains on the lookout for a new challenge.

Gerrard has been in the running to become Burnley’s next boss for the last few weeks amid doubts around Parker’s job, and he is now the second favourite for the job, according to the bookmakers.

Gerrard’s odds have been slashed from 8/1 to 5/1 to return to management at Turf Moor soon, with Parker now the second-favourite among Premier League managers to be sacked next.

Who else is in the running to be Burnley’s next manager?

Football Insider revealed last month that Gerrard would be open to returning to Liverpool as an interim if Arne Slot is relieved of his duties, but the Dutchman now looks more likely to stay on after their recent return to form.

He could soon take the Burnley job if Parker is dismissed, but he is currently the second-favourite behind Man United legend Michael Carrick, who is priced at 3/1 odds by the bookmakers.

Former West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is next up, at odds of 9/1, with Bodo/Glimt’s Kjetil Knutsen, England under-21 manager Lee Carsley, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all also believed to be in the running at odds of 12/1.
