‘Stinker’ – Chris Sutton blasts Celtic senior player for display v Rangers
Chris Sutton has blasted Mikael Lustig for his performance in the Celtic defence during Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Rangers at Celtic Park.
Lustig, 31, was regularly caught out by the energetic Gers attack and in the opening moments of the game he was forced into losing possession by Daniel Candeias which could have easily resulted in a goal if it wasn’t for a good save by Craig Gordon.
Sutton praised the Light Blues for their good start to the Old Firm clash, however he was clear that he was not impressed at all with Lustig.
“Rangers good start… Lustig having a stinker,” he said on his personal Twitter account.
Lustig has been ever-present for Celtic this season, making a total of 34 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals in the process with two of them coming in a surprise brace against Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup.
It’s been a great season for the ex-Rosenborg right-back, who also helped Sweden secure qualification to the World Cup in Russia next summer with a play-off win against Italy.
Brendan Rodgers made it clear earlier this season that he’d like to sign a new right-back soon to help Celtic out in their Champions League qualifiers next summer, which Lustig, and back-up Cristian Gamboa, may be unavailable for due to their countries’ participation in the World Cup.
In other Celtic news, Jim White has given an update on the talks between the Hoops and a Premier League side about a potential January striker deal.
