Struggling Rodgers favourite not to be trusted at Celtic – still to start Old Firm clash
COMMENT
Celtic centre-back Jozo Simunovic has been struggling for the Hoops this season, after a stellar year with the Hoops last season.
The 23-year-old started the season well, and was excellent in the 3-0 Champions League win over Anderlecht in September.
Since then however his form has been all over the place, typified with a dreadful performance in a 4-0 loss to Hearts in December, which saw him lose his place in the first-team.
Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers still favours the player for the bigger matches, and he returned to the side in a three at the back system alongside Dedryck Boyata and Kristoffer Ajer.
Sadly for the Hoops this lead to another error-strewn performance from the Bosnian, who was sent-off in the recent 3-2 win over Rangers for an elbow on Alfredo Morelos.
Despite the red card in the last Old Firm clash, Simunovic will still be likely to start the upcoming Old Firm Scottish Cup semi-final next month.
With Jack Hendry ineligible for the match, Rodgers will possibly choose to utilise a back three system once again, as it had worked against Rangers to an extent in the recent league match until Simunovic was sent-off.
Both Boyata and Simunovic have caused issues with their defending this season, but Rodgers will trust the players for one last hurrah before the pair possibly depart for pastures new in the summer.
