Kieran Maguire tips influx of French signings at Sunderland after ‘huge’ boardroom news

Sunderland could see an influx of French loan signings if they embark on a partnership with AS Monaco.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Black Cats’ links to the Ligue 1 outfit.

Sunderland co-owner and non-executive director Juan Sartori has been a director at Monaco since November last year.

As relayed by the Sunderland Echo yesterday (20 March), French outlet L’Equipe reports that Sartori could be set for a more senior role at the club.

It is claimed that he has a strong relationship with Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and wants to create a multi-club operation.

Maguire explained how a link-up with the European giants could be beneficial for the north-east outfit in terms of recruitment.

“Sunderland could potentially be seen as a more desirable destination for loan players,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“If you have a multi-club model where there is more of a centralisation training and technical knowledge, it makes sense to send players there.

“If there is a player who is too young or needs more game time than he’s getting at Monaco, they can get that at Sunderland.

“Not only that but they get it in a framework that is close to what he would be experiencing at the parent club. That can be huge for both parties.

“That means when he returns to the parent club, there will be less adjustment required. That’s the rationale behind such an approach.”

It was revealed in February that Louis-Dreyfus owns just 41 per cent of Sunderland, contrary to widespread fan belief.

Alex Neil’s side, who are currently 6th in League One, are next in action against Gillingham next Saturday (2 March).
