BBC pundit: Rangers senior player could be out until March after injury blow
BBC Scotland pundit Tam McManus believes that veteran Rangers striker Kenny Miller is facing a minimum of three months on the sidelines after suffering a ruptured hamstring, meaning he may not be back until late March 2018.
Senior player Miller is expected to be out of action for a “significant” amount of time after collapsing to the turf during the Gers 2-1 win over Hibs at Easter Road.
Retired striker McManus suffered a similar injury in the late stages of his playing career and admitted that the mental side of recovering from the injury is just as critical as his physical rehabilitation before a potential
“It’s a really bad injury for Kenny, considering his age as well,” McManus told BBC Sportsound’s podcast.
“There’s probably worse injuries like tearing your Achilles or doing your cruciate.
“But it’s not just the physical aspect of this injury, it’s the mental one and he’s looking at a minimum of three months. I was talking to an ex-Hibs physio today and he was saying ‘probably three months’.
“It’s always going to be in the back of his mind as soon as you open your legs up again or accelerate that it could happen again. I haven’t seen a scan but best case scenario is probably 12 to 14 weeks.”
Miller’s Ibrox contract comes to an end at the end of the season and will face a race against time to get bck to fitness and prove his worth to whoever becomes the new Rangers manager.
The 37-year-old has won three Scottish titles, a Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup over his three spells with the Ibrox giants.
Miller has scored 115 times in 296 games for the Gers and is one of a small number of players to have won league titles with both Rangers and Celtic.
The veteran was banished to the club’s Under-20s squad earlier this year by now-former manager Pedro Caixinha after leaking information from a team meeting to members of the media in the wake of the Old Firm defeat by Celtic in September.
