Tammy Abraham ‘wants to re-join Aston Villa’, his place in striker pecking order revealed

Tammy Abraham would be keen to re-join Aston Villa in the January transfer window if they can agree a deal to cut short his current loan at Besiktas.

Former Aston Villa scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the 28-year-old is hopeful of a return to the Premier League with his former club this month.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed that Roma are prepared to let Abraham leave, with Villa among the clubs vying for his signature.

The former Chelsea striker is currently on loan at Besiktas, who are demanding compensation if they are to forfeit their £11million obligation to buy him in the summer.

However, Roma are open to letting him move elsewhere, while the striker wants to return to Aston Villa and all parties are working to reach an agreement.

Tammy Abraham open to Aston Villa return

Brown told Football Insider on 14 January that Abraham would be perfect for Aston Villa, having played a key role in the deal to bring him to the club in 2018.

The striker thrived on loan at Villa during the 2018-19 season, as he bagged 26 goals in 40 appearances and fired his side to promotion from the Championship.

Tammy Abraham would definitely be interested in that move,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He’s been away for a while, but stepping back into the Premier League at a club where the fans know him and he knows people, it can only be a benefit.

“The fans will welcome him back with open arms I’m sure.

“It’s a low-risk move for him and for Villa as well if the price is right, he can come in and compete with Ollie Watkins for that position.

“I don’t think he would expect to go straight in as the first-choice, but he’ll get minutes because they’re still competing in Europe and in the FA Cup.

“Yeah, it’s definitely a deal I think he would be interested in and Villa as well.”

Sheffield United eye Ross Barkley deal

Incoming deals are not the only focus at Villa Park, however, as PSR struggles mean they may be forced to cash in on players or get some off of their wage bill.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 15 January that Sheffield United are interested in signing Ross Barkley on loan until the end of the season.

It is an ambitious move from Chris Wilder‘s team given Barkley is a high earner at Villa Park, but the Blades are hopeful they could work out a deal.

The 32-year-old’s current contract at Aston Villa is set to expire in June, although the club retain the option to extend his deal by one year.

Barkley has fallen out of favour under Unai Emery this season and has not started a single game across all competitions, playing a total of 153 minutes.
