'That is nothing' - Exclusive: Whelan reacts to touted Everton bid for Morelos

Noel Whelan has insisted Rangers ‘cannot let Alfredo Morelos go for £12million’ this summer as Everton ready a bid for the striker when the transfer window opens.

The former Leeds United and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, said the Gers should be demanding at least £25million for the 24-year-old.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Carlo Ancelotti is interested in bringing the goalscorer to Everton this summer and added they may left their star man go for around £12m.

Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson already have a long list of targets as they prepare for Morelos’ departure with Ivan Toney top of that list.

Whelan was adamant that the likes of the Toffees could afford to pay £25million for the Colombian.

“They should demand £25million minimum,” he told Football Insider“That could be the difference.

“That is not very much for a Premier League club or a top club in Europe to be paying out for a striker.

“He is still young so that is what I would be holding out for.

“You cannot let somebody like him go for £12million. That is nothing these days!”

Morelos scored 29 goals in 46 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side last season despite failing to score in the Scottish Premiership between December and March.

The Colombia international has three years remaining on his contract at Ibrox after he signed an extension in March 2019.
